Eras
Here at Order of the Phoenix we roleplay in 4 different eras: Death Eater Era (which involves the years at Hogwarts in which Tom Riddle attended), Marauder's Era (which is set in the time period of Harry's parents Lily and James as well as other students their age, circa 1971-1977), Harry's Era (which spans Harry Potter's time at Hogwarts), and Next Era (which covers any time at Hogwarts during which descendants of Harry Era characters, usually called NextGen, attend Hogwarts).
Canons
Canon characters (those which actually exist in the books) are perfectly acceptable at OOTP. However, you must request to roleplay as these characters and you must still fill out an application.
Rules
The main rule here at Order of the Phoenix is that you must always respect your fellow RPers. It is okay to disagree with someone, but please keep it polite and private. If you find that you are having a problem with another user, please attempt to sort it out through PM. If you feel that you need intervention, an administrator will be glad to help handle the situation.
As far as in your RPs, swearing is often a big topic on forums. Swearing IS allowed in your roleplay here at OOTP, but only when it is in character and for a purpose. Cursing every other word does NOT move the plot forward and is an abuse of our trust in you. Please use your discretion. On a related topic, violent and sexual content on OOTP will be highly monitored. If you feel that there may be non-age-appropriate content in your RP, please contact an admin with a thorough explanation of how the content factors into your plot. If you are okayed for the thread, please include a warning in your thread title so that anyone who does not witsh to read things of this nature will know to avoid your topic.
A final rule concerns the way that your actions in one era may affect another. If you are going to do something which would clearly alter a future canon event (e.g. killing Harry before he has his children or making Lily Evans marry Snape instead of James) please indicate that your thread is AU (alternate universe) so that we will know it has no effect on plots outside of your own.
Whole Stories
Whole stories threads are only for FULLY PLOTTED ideas that will include a certain number of pre-determined characters. You may not post in someone else's whole story, as it has already been thoroughly planned, and your posting will be an intrusion. You wouldn't want someone ruining the mood of YOUR plot, would you?
